Pennsylvania Actively Uncovering License Violations

If you are applying for your new Pennsylvania driver's license or renewing your old license, and you have any outstanding violations in another state, Beware. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has begun making checks through a computerized national database, called the "Drivers Problem Driver Pointer System." This new effort is in response to the new federal Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Program.

Prospective or current drivers have to clear a record check in order to recieve or retain future driving privledges. PennDOT has estimated 170,000 of the state's 8.5 million licensed drivers will be affected. However, people will with outstanding violations will recieve courtesy notices from PennDOT, and those affected people will be notified via mail.
